I was greeted by this coral snake when I jumped out of my truck at the Big Oaks bee yard this afternoon. To identify it I remembered the old saying: “Red and yellow kill a fellow, red and black friend of Jack.” The colors were muted but red and yellow were definitely adjacent. I estimate that it was about 18 inches long, at least. It wasn’t as timid as coral snakes are reported to be but he (she?) eventually moved along.
I heard someone say recently that the snakes are moving around now. I guess he was right because I also saw a garter snake on my way out of the yard.
