To follow up on Mark’s previous post, here’s a shot of the queen cell opened up after he got the queen larvae out of there. That’s the royal jelly he mentioned. He let me try my first bit of royal jelly and it was interesting. The consistency was more liquidy than I expected and the flavors in my mouth went from slightly sweet to slighty salty to…not sure how to describe the last phase on the tastebuds. It was really an interesting experience but I don’t think royal jelly in it’s pure state is for me. Maybe I should have mixed a little honey in it. In Asian culture, royal jelly is all the craze right now, believe it or not. That was news to me when my parents asked Mark to find some for them from a reputable source. My niece, who lives near my parents, explained that in the Asian markets, poster-sized ads are plastered everywhere promoting the health benefits of royal jelly in one’s diet. So. Mom and Dad want to try it. 😀
