Our new coyote bee yard is on a beautiful tract of land that is owned by a very nice young family just outside Kingsbury. There is abundant mesquite, agarita, bee brush and other honey plants that will allow the bees to thrive here. There is also abundant wildlife – we’ve seen wild turkeys, heard packs of coyotes and the landowners report sightings of bobcats and a mountain lion. They keep a large herd of goats and have some well trained and well mannered livestock dogs to help watch the herd. One of them, Hank (I think), enjoyed watching the bees with me today.
I wanted to place 10 hives here but with the bees building up so slowly this spring I could only muster a handful of new hives. There is plenty of room here so we’ll add hives when I make my splits after the honey harvest.
