This is what happens when you don’t get supers on the hives fast enough for the bees when they are busy making honey for you. When we had been gone for a week, Mark tried to get to as many yards and hives as possible but with only a day’s warning, he didn’t get to all of them. So this is what he found on one of the hives – the bees were filling up all spaces with beeswax and honey. And yummy honey at that. Great problem to have this year we think. He needs to make more supers as he keeps running out. We are absolutely not complaining about this problem. 🙂 The past week saw about 3.5 inches of much needed rain so we can only hope that it will perk things up and pop out more food for the bees. You know what that means – even more local honey. AWESOME.
So today was a day that I sort of dreaded since the hurt of my mother’s passing is still so fresh. I only dread it because I couldn’t do the things that I took for granted as many of us do without thinking – buying a card for mom, making a call since she lives far away. In recent years, when asked if she needed anything or what she’d like, shed simply say, “Just think about me and when you have time, call me.” That simple. So if you can, be sure to ask your mom what makes her happy. What makes me happy is that I have a wonderful and caring husband who worked hard to help me get through the day. And if I can get through this post without crying, then he’d be very very proud of me I think. (I’m a sap in case you didn’t already know that.) We had a wonderful day together – not doing much bee work and just focused on family time. You see, today’s also my birthday so it was sort of doubly difficult. But Mark always knows what I need. My spirits lifted tremendously when I opened my card and gift from him. A super thoughtful (and adorable and PINK) card. And the gift – a date at the JW Marriott Cibolo Moon restaurant for the Winemaker Dinner. This is a four-course meal. Actually, it looks like an event rather than just a meal. And do you see what’s in the first course!?!?!? That’s GBR in the first course. I can’t describe how proud I felt for all the work we put into the business. It is so fulfilling when I see our name out there in the world and to know people enjoy our products is an incredible feeling. I am so excited to go to the event because I’ve always wanted to try something like this – who wouldn’t want to sample wines with fine foods in a beautiful environment? But now it’s even more special because we’ll get to see how others use our honey and I guess we’ll also see what people think about it. Can’t wait.
CORRECTION: My mistake, folks. It is 18 Oaks where we will enjoy our wine dinner. I thought it was Cibolo Moon but Bethany caught that for me. Thanks, B!
